Broadband network attracts visitors

The Uppsala based company Borderlight AB who develops operator neutral networks has reached such a market position that Dutch representatives on their own initiative visits the company today, Wednesday, to catch up in the latest development in Swedish broadband technique.

Koos Andriessen, former minister of finance and now responsible for the Dutch broadband development, is leading a delegation with people from the Dutch trade and industry and representatives from Amsterdam, Haag and Leiden.

The visitors are interested in the network that Borderlight together with Cable & Wireless are building for the municipal of Uppsala and Uppsala county council.

The uniqueness of this network is that it will be open for use to both business and the domestic market. It will provide an immediate coverage of the city centre with a powerful network that is financed and operated 100% by the market   players.

The major part is running

The network for the municipal and county council was started in the spring of 2002 and today the major part of it is up and running. During the spring of 2003 the network will be opened for new operators and customers. Tests are already being done with video services. Borderlight, with about 10 employees in Uppsala, is a company in the leading edge of broadband development, something that is proven by the spontaneous Dutch interest for the company’s business ideas. Together with SIDA Borderlight is running another project in Sri Lanka.

Borderlight's CEO Sten Oscarsson states that it is yet too early to say something of what the Dutch visit will give. But it is in phase with Borderlight´s belief of a future not only in Sweden but also in Europe and the rest of the world.
